Hajj Chronicles Uncovers Alleged Internal Sabotage Plot Targeting NAHCON Leadership

An exclusive investigation by Hajj Chronicles has uncovered what appears to be a coordinated internal effort aimed at undermining the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), according to confidential documents and interviews with senior government officials who are familiar with ongoing developments.

The classified materials believed to be part of an internal intelligence review indicate that a network of individuals within and around the Commission may be systematically attempting to sow administrative instability ahead of preparations for the 2026 Hajj. The documents suggest that this alleged sabotage is designed to weaken public confidence in NAHCON’s top leadership and indirectly cast the Presidency in a negative light, particularly within Nigeria’s Muslim community.

Central to the findings is NAHCON’s Executive Chairman, who sources describe as maintaining a firm, transparent, and integrity-driven leadership approach in line with directives from the Presidency. According to the leaked assessment, his resistance to undue influence over financial and administrative decisions has triggered pushback from those seeking control over strategic aspects of the Commission.

One senior official, who requested anonymity due to the sensitivity of the matter, noted:

“The Chairman’s refusal to compromise on core standards has triggered calculated attempts to create artificial operational challenges around him.”

A major fault line highlighted in the intelligence assessment relates to recent structural adjustments that moved NAHCON’s supervisory role from the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) to the Office of the Vice President. Since the change, insiders report a rise in protocol breaches, including instances of junior officers bypassing the Chairman and transmitting sensitive information directly to top government offices without authorization.

Experts warn that such patterns, if not addressed swiftly, threaten to erode the Commission’s internal command hierarchy, compromise decision-making, and hamper strategic planning for the upcoming Hajj operations.

Those familiar with the intelligence assessment caution that any destabilization of NAHCON could have far-reaching national repercussions. With the 2026 Hajj less than a year away, disruptions in planning or service delivery could trigger widespread dissatisfaction particularly given the religious and political significance of Hajj operations in Nigeria.

Historically, failures in major public service sectors often redirect blame toward the Presidency. Analysts say any crisis surrounding Hajj administration could therefore escalate into broader political or social unrest.

The leaked report recommends an immediate review of NAHCON’s supervisory arrangement. Proposed solutions include reverting the Commission to SGF oversight or, alternatively, placing the Christian Pilgrims Commission under the Office of the Vice President to maintain institutional balance.

Senior officials interviewed by Hajj Chronicles stress that prompt intervention is essential to avoid reputational damage, administrative breakdown, or delays that may compromise preparations for next year’s pilgrimage.

Hajj Chronicles will continue to investigate this developing story and reach out to relevant authorities for official clarification. As of the time of publication, NAHCON, the Office of the SGF, and the Office of the Vice President had not responded to requests for comment.
