The recent reconciliation process within the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) has been widely described as a positive and timely development capable of strengthening Hajj administration and improving service delivery to Nigerian pilgrims.
Stakeholders have welcomed the move, noting that internal harmony within the Commission is critical to sustaining the ongoing reforms introduced by the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of NAHCON, Professor Abdullahi Saleh Usman, popularly known as “Pakistan.”
Observers have particularly commended Vice President Kashim Shettima for facilitating the reconciliation process, which followed earlier misunderstandings among some administrative officers of the Commission.
The intervention is seen as a fatherly and stabilising step aimed at restoring mutual understanding and institutional cohesion within NAHCON.
According to analysts, fostering peace and cooperation within the Commission aligns with Nigeria’s cultural values and is essential for the smooth planning and execution of Hajj operations. They argue that tension and administrative disagreements during Hajj preparations could negatively affect outcomes, hence the importance of timely reconciliation.
The role played by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima in promoting order, respect and understanding within the Commission has also been acknowledged, with many describing it as a demonstration of commitment to effective Hajj administration.
It has further been noted that the reconciliation process should extend beyond internal administrative matters to include external stakeholders and contractors, urging all parties to respect the peaceful atmosphere being restored in order to enhance the overall success of NAHCON’s operations.
Many Nigerian pilgrims who have participated in Hajj exercises over the past three decades have also described the 2025 Hajj as one of the most organised and effectively executed, citing improvements in planning, coordination and service delivery under the current leadership.
In another significant development, Professor Abdullahi Saleh Usman has approved the immediate constitution of a high-level delegation to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to conclude all pending accommodation arrangements in Makkah and provide executive oversight.
The delegation, to be led by the Chairman/CEO, comprises:
Professor Abubakar A. Yagawal, Commissioner, Planning, Research, Statistics, Information and Library Services (PRSILS);
Sheikh Muhammad Bin Uthman, Board Member, North-West Zone;
Dr. Tajudeen Oladejo, Board Member, South-West Zone;
Hajiya Aishat Obi Ahmed, Board Member, South-East Zone; and
Dr. Mustapha Mohammed Ali, Secretary of the Commission.
The team has been mandated to finalise accommodation arrangements and submit a comprehensive report to the Commission immediately after completing the assignment.
